Hair Treatments in KL: What They Are, What to Expect, and What It Costs
Most of us spend more time thinking about what to put on our hair than what our hair actually needs. Add a hijab into the picture, and the equation gets more specific — covered hair has different pressures on it, different problem patterns, and different things to gain from a treatment.
This guide covers the main hair treatments available in KL, what each one does, what hijabi women in particular should know before booking, and what to expect to pay. No upselling. Just the information.
The Treatments, Explained
Keratin Treatment
Keratin treatments smooth the hair cuticle using a protein-based formula that gets heat-sealed in with a flat iron. The result is less frizz, faster drying time, and hair that's noticeably easier to manage — typically for three to five months.
Good if: your hair is frizzy or thick and takes a long time to dry and style before putting on your hijab.
For hijab wearers, keratin is worth considering for a practical reason beyond just frizz: hair that spends most of the day covered in Malaysia's humidity tends to absorb moisture and expand throughout the day. Keratin slows that down, so your hair looks closer at 6pm to how it did at 8am.
One thing to plan around: most keratin treatments require you to keep hair completely dry and unbound for the first 72 hours after the appointment. No washing, no ponytail, no pinning under a hijab. For women who wear hijab daily, this means booking on a Thursday or Friday so you have a couple of days where you can manage loose hair. Your stylist should walk you through this before you leave the salon.
Prices in KL typically range from RM400 and up depending on hair length and the product used.
Rebonding
Rebonding uses a chemical relaxer to permanently straighten the hair shaft. Unlike keratin, which manages texture temporarily, rebonding restructures the hair itself — the results last until your hair grows out.
Good if: you want permanently straight hair and spend a lot of time managing volume or bulk under your hijab.
Straight, flat hair is easier to wrap, pin, and tuck. For that reason, rebonding has been a practical choice for hijab wearers for a long time. What's worth knowing before you commit: rebonded hair is chemically altered and tends to be more fragile, especially at the line where treated hair meets new growth.
Daily pinning and tying — the kind that comes with hijab styling — puts repeated stress on that zone. Use fabric-covered hair ties rather than elastic ones, and avoid pinning tightly in the same spot every day.
The process takes three to five hours. Avoid washing for 48–72 hours after, and use a sulphate-free shampoo going forward to preserve the treatment
Prices in KL typically range from RM200 and up depending on length.
Scalp Treatment
Scalp treatments work on the root of the problem rather than the hair itself — they reset the scalp environment to support healthier growth. Depending on the product used, a treatment can rebalance oil production, clear buildup, relieve dryness or dandruff, and address thinning.
Good if: your scalp feels itchy or congested, you're noticing more shedding than usual, or your hairline is thinning.
For hijab wearers, scalp health deserves more attention than it usually gets. Wearing a hijab daily creates conditions that are harder on the scalp than most people realise: heat and moisture build up under the fabric, sweat accumulates (especially in KL's climate), and friction from inner caps adds irritation over time.
Tight pinning styles cause a specific kind of stress on the hairline called traction — and over time, repeated traction leads to thinning at the temples and front hairline.
The other thing: because your hair is covered most of the day, scalp problems are harder to notice early. By the time the shedding or hairline changes become obvious, the issue has usually been building for months.
A scalp treatment once every few months is more maintenance than fix — the right time to start is before things feel urgent.
At Dashing Diva, we use Monzone products (a well-known Australian brand) for scalp concerns. Treatment time is usually an hour or so.
Prices typically start from RM100 and up
Olaplex Treatment
Olaplex is a repair treatment, not a styling one. It works by reconnecting broken bonds in the hair at a structural level — the kind of damage that shows up as dryness, brittleness, or hair that snaps when you comb it.
Good if: your hair feels dry or weak, especially if you colour your hair or use heat styling regularly.
For hijab wearers, bond damage accumulates differently than it does for women who leave their hair uncovered. Less UV exposure means less sun damage — but daily mechanical stress from wrapping, pinning, and fabric friction adds up in a different way.
If you also colour your hair, even occasionally, the combination of chemical and mechanical stress makes Olaplex one of the more useful treatments to do periodically, not just as a one-off fix.
At Dashing Diva, we offer Olaplex as an add-on or as a full-service

What to Expect at the Salon
Most treatment appointments start with a consultation. Your stylist will ask about your hair history, what products you use at home, and what you're hoping to change. At Dashing Diva, no chemicals or tools come near your hair before that conversation happens.
After that: a wash, the treatment itself, and a blow-dry or style finish. For chemical treatments like keratin or rebonding, there's usually a waiting period mid-process where the formula is left to set.
A couple of things that help on your end: come with your hair clean and unstyled if possible, and avoid silicone-heavy products on the day of your appointment — they can affect how treatments bond to the hair.
If you have a specific concern (hairline thinning, breakage at a particular spot, scalp sensitivity), mention it in the consultation rather than after.
